Invest Marin Money Wi$ely: Divest from Climate Risk!

FF-logo_small.jpgJoin 350Marin.org in urging Marin County to re-invest its $1.9 billion public employee pension fund from fossil fuels to clean energy. Insist on MCERA's fiduciary duty of "superior long-term investment performance" of YOUR public funds. We are looking for environmentally minded individuals and organizations who support divesting from fossil fuels.

Download a flyer for this action and please circulate widely.

During the public comment period, you will have 2-3 minutes if you want to speak. Because MCERA rigorously enforces this time limit, it may be helpful to prepare a written statement in advance. If you don't wish to speak in public, please just show up and support those who do! (Sheer numbers do have a great impact.)

Divestment is the opposite of investment–it simply means getting rid of stocks, bonds or investment funds that are unethical or morally objectionable, particularly fossil fuel investments which are a risk for investors and for the planet.   We are calling on institutions to divest from the 200 publicly-traded companies that hold the vast majority of listed coal, oil and gas reserves.  For more information on the international divestment movement, please go to www.gofossilfree.org
