Join No Coal in Oakland for a rally to convince the Oakland City Council to reject the proposal by Phil Tagami to ship Coal-by-Rail through East Bay communities to a new Coal Export Terminal. We want the Council to adopt a prohibition on the storage, loading, import and export of coal in Oakland.
The rally will take place at Frank Ogawa Plaza Saturday June 25 at 1 pm.
Then on Monday June 27th we will rally again at 4 pm before the 5 pm Special Session of the City Council, when a final determination by the Council is expected. Will they ban coal or will they sentence us to a 66-year-long compromise with the developer that would make Oakland the biggest coal exporting city on the West Coast?
Although public opposition is great, powerful forces are working behind the scenes to make the coal deal a reality. Gov. Jerry Brown has remained silent while his friend and business partner Phil Tagami plots to ship millions of tons of coal through Oakland to be burned overseas. A responsible City Council must stop this reckless proposal, which endangers the health and safety of East Bay communities and and would add to climate change throughout the world. We can stop them but only if we let the City Council know that we will stand for nothing less than a ban on coal.
