Tell Congress: Stop the Trans-Pacific Partnership

The Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement -- a trade deal being negotiated between the US and dozens of other countries -- is the fossil fuel industry's latest tool to shut down climate action, and today begins a huge fight to stop it.

The TPP would give foreign fossil fuel corporations the right to sue city, state and national governments if climate action hurts their profits. It's an enormous corporate power grab, at the expense of our democracy and our climate.

Legislation that would allow the TPP to pass, called Fast Track, faces a close vote in Congress -- if enough Members of Congress come out against this plan in the next few weeks, it stops it in its tracks.

Send a message to your members of Congress now to stop the TPP.

The Future of Energy - March 24 Screening & Discussion

The Future of Energy is a new documentary that paints a hopeful picture about the renewable energy revolution and what everyday people can do to be part of the solution of climate change. The film focuses on the work being done in the US, but particularly in the Bay Area, on renewable energy and how we can get to 100% renewable faster than people think.

"We are decentralizing energy. That's a game changer, that's going to change everything." Jeremy Rifkin, economist, activist, author of The Third Industrial Revolution

350Marin is hosting a screening of the film followed by a discussion with the filmmakers who will share their excitement in what is possible, what is already happening and how you can participate to make it happen even faster.

The film will be shown March 24 starting at 7:00pm, at the First Presbyterian Church in San Rafael. Doors open at 6:30pm.

There is a $10 suggested donation.

Find out more and RSVP on the event page.

President Obama Vetoes Keystone XL Bill

President Obama on Tuesday vetoed a bill to approve construction of the Keystone XL oil pipeline, rejecting an effort by Republicans and some Democrats to force his administration to let the highly contested energy project move forward.

By saying no to the legislation, Mr. Obama retains the authority to make a final judgment on the pipeline on his own timeline. The White House has said the president would decide whether to allow the pipeline when all of the environmental and regulatory reviews are complete.

But the veto — his first rejection of major legislation as president — is also a demonstration of political strength directed at Republicans who now control both chambers of Congress. Mr. Obama is signaling that he will fight back against their agenda.

Dare to Divest - February 14

Dare to Divest

Thirty people attended the Dare to Divest event in San Rafael on February 14. The event was held in conjunction with 350.org's Global Divestment Day to raise awareness about the need for institutions and individuals to do what is necessary to avert the climate crisis by divesting from fossil fuels.

The speakers were 350Marin's Jody Timms and Certified Financial Planner J. Patrick Costello. Jody gave an overview of the current divestment movement and Patrick provided information about green investing.
